Get Up and Give!

Hello and Happy New Year!

January begins our annual Get Up and Give! Campaign.  Last year we donated a portion of our January sales to the Deanna Favre HOPE Foundation (which goes to those affected by breast cancer) and this year we’re going to change things up!

This year we’ve decided to make the Get Up and Give!  Campaign an ongoing collection of ideas of how we can give to one another.  The Friends Forever Girls community believes that giving of oneself is something that should just be a part of what we do- something that helps us to build, friendship, character and community.

So, let’s Get Up and Give!  Here are some ideas:

Get Up and Give…A compliment to your brother or sister.

Get Up and Give…And help your parents by cleaning up your room.

Get Up and Give…The money earned by recycling your aluminum cans and plastic bottles to a local charity.

Get Up and Give…A smile to someone who looks like they could use a little cheering up.

Lisa, I know you and your family have many ideas on creative ways to give…

We do try to encourage giving through everyday activities so it becomes just a “way of doing business” so to speak.  As a family we pass along clothes that no longer fit to other families with younger children.

We Get Up and Give…  Books and educational toys that our kids have outgrown to a local school that houses a free pre-school twice a week.

It is always rewarding to see the smiles on the faces of those who receive the items.  You can tell they’re very thankful!

Please share some of your ideas so that we can make this a year of ongoing kindness to one another.

My son Shawn loves animals. When the shelter in our community burned down he and his friends went around the neighborhood collecting money, dog food, biscuits, dog bones, etc…and took the donated items to the shelter. It was a great experience for him… He realized how he and his friends can really make a difference.

i love this idea! we sat down and my kids wrote on pieces of paper some things that they could “get up & give”. it cracked my up. my youngest said he could get up and give his dinosaur to his friend ben! anyway, we put all the pieces of paper in a jar. i can’t wait for them to pick out the “get up and give mommy some help in the kitchen!!”
this works well with what we’re doing at school with the “fill the bucket campaign”

Did you hear about the little girl, I think in Ohio, who used her allowance to buy warm socks for the homeless?

My wife, son and I help make and serve dinner at a shelter here in Minneapolis four times a year. There are other things we do during the year, but this is immediate and personal. It puts a face on homelessness. It allows us to share a meal and conversation, and occassionally hear another person’s story.
